Heat exchangers are either of the double-pipe type like the tubular reactor or are multi-tube exchangers and are very appropriate for the 300 - 500 bar range. Multi-tube heat exchangers in that pressure range are used as recycle-gas, product or compressor interstage coolers. They can be protected against corrosion by seakaphen or copper cladding. The tube-to-sheet welding is carried out with great care in two passes in order to allow for the highest safety and fatigue resistance of that joint.
