Safety is paramount in LDPE high pressure operation. Uhde High Pressure Technologies offers to support its customers with critical inspections on the high pressure equipment. As a result, the client can be sure of the equipment integrity and plan for further safe operation.

Many countries have a recurring inspection by law. We assist our customer with our high pressure know-how during the inspection together with legally required third party.

Parts to be inspected are all high pressure equipments like reactors, vessels, heat exchangers and overpressure protection systems.

The following hazards may have caused defects in high pressure LDPE components:

  • internal or external corrosion and / or erosion
  • pressure pulsations and mechanical vibrations
  • pressure and temperature variations (e.g. start-up / shut-down)
  • pressure and temperature surges due to decompositions
  • carburisation or de-carburisation due to decompositions
  • hardening or softening effect due to decompositions
  • long-term material embrittlement
  • any other varying load causing material fatigue

Short overview about the scope of inspection:

Defects in the material volume / structure will be will be checked by Ultrasonic technique, Pressure test or Acoustic emission method.

Defects at the material surface of load bearing components will be checked by visual inspection (boroscope), eddy current technology, magnetic particle technology or dye penetrant method.

Loss of protective residual stress e.g. autofrettaged components will be checked by re-autofrettage

Material deterioration like Chemical variation ((de-)carburization, intrusion of harmful elements) or hardness variation will be checked by destructive testing on replaceable elements (e.g. sealings), hardness measurements at meaningful and harmless locations or metallographic examination.
